Watercolors of the Northwest and other destinations.
 Jan Herren graduated from WSU in music and journalism and has spent forty years on Bainbridge Island with her husband Vern.
|
 While sailing in Desolation Sound in the summer of 1982, Jan pondered a better way to record the beauty of the region other than photos. Upon returning she enrolled in a beginning watercolor class with Charles Hill.
|
 As her new hobby gradually took over, sharpening her awareness of colors and composition, Jan took cruises to Canada, Greece, Wales, the Caribbean and Mexico, filling her book with sketches, photos and notes. In 1987, Jan set up the Blue Door Gallery.

 She has held one-person shows at the Chandlery, Messenger House, and Madison Avenue Retirement Center on Bainbridge, and at the Sand Point Naval Station.
|
 In 1990, her original "Second Wind" was accepted by a juried show at P.E.O. Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa.
|
 A new ferry scene, "Seattle Bound," was featured in the March 1997 issue of the P.E.O. national magazine. Several other pieces will be produced as prints for the International P.E.O. Convention in Seattle in September 1997

2002 is the twentieth anniversary of the Blue Door Gallery Jan's work can be seen at the Blue Door Gallery
