CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 

Japanese Box Bag – This wonderful bag was designed by Margot Eddy, who teaches the class. The class fee includes EVERYTHING you need to make your first bag, as well as the pattern and instructions for you to take home. Features embroidery techniques using Sashiko thread and authentic Japanese fabrics. Max. Students: 3

Button Bracelet – Taught by Jenn Rhoads. Finally, another use for all of our wonderful buttons. You will need to bring lots of buttons (shank work best), and Jenn will supply everything else you need! Max. Students: 6

Beginning Wool Felting – This class is becoming a fast favorite. Class fee includes all materials and instructions to make your first felted wool project. Come see shop samples. Max. Students: 3

Improv Quilt – Taught by Joan Spier. In this class you will make a quilt top in 6 hours. Inspired by techniques and results of African American Quilting, and later ‘Gee’s Bend’. Come and see her samples. Joan has 20+ years of quilting experience and is currently writing a book! Come learn her amazing techniques. Bring a lunch! Max. Students: 6

Coil Basket – Taught by Kendra Allen. This great class will teach you how to make a coil basket using your sewing machine zigzag stitch. Come see the shop samples and imagine the possibilities. Max. Students: 3

Brush Stroke Embroidery – Finally, Deanie Willmann is able to teach a class. Brush Stroke Embroidery is an award winning technique that Deanie created herself. You will be amazed. This class is sure to fill up fast! Class fee includes EVERYTHING you need to learn and start your first project. You only need to bring a thimble! Max. Students: 6

Origami Jacket – Taught by Kendra Allen. This elegant jacket is so simple and versatile – and YES, you will walk out WEARING it after only 2 hours! This can be made out of any fabric – come see the shop samples.

Appliqué 101 – Back by popular demand - Chung Pring teaches this class. It will cover all of the basics of appliqué for a variety of projects. Come and see the wonderful sample! Max. Students: 6

pinwheel Stack-n-Whack – Taught by Margret Darrah. This class will cover the pinwheel stack-n-whack technique that you have admired in Margret’s quilts. Pick up supply list when you sign up.

star Stack-n-Whack – Taught by Mary Terry. This class will cover the star stack-n-whack technique. This is very different from the pinwheel technique – so learn both! Pick up supply list when you sign up.

Santa Workshop – It is never too early to prepare for the Holidays! Come see the shop sample, you won’t believe your eyes! Pick up a class list for all of your materials. This class will be held in 2 sessions. Bring a lunch!

KID’S CLASSES:

Sock Dogs – For kids age 8 and older. Must be able to hand sew. Bring a CLEAN pair of socks and transform them into a dog of your own to take home. Booties won’t work! All other supplies provided. There are 2 sessions each class day, morning and afternoon. Max. Students: 5

Beginning Quilting – For kids age 10 and older. In this class you will finish a doll sized quilt in the class. Class fee includes all materials. Bring a sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. Max. Students: 3

Fee: $25.00 Dates: 7/22 (2 sessions) Approx: 2.5 hrs

Japanese Convertible Pouch – For kids age 10 and older. Class fee includes everything you need to make one of these great pouches. Bring a sewing machine and basic sewing supplies! Taught by Margot.

Kids Classes Continued:

Tie Dye T-Shirts – For kids age 7 and older. Bring any style t-shirt, and we will supply everything you need to tie-dye it! T-shirts must be 100% cotton and pre-washed w/out fabric softeners. The class sessions are as follows, with max. of 6 kids PER session. 7/22: 10am, 1pm 8/22: 10am, 1pm

Beginning Sewing – For kids age 10 and older. This class is will cover the basics of sewing, starting with threading the machine, stitching. You will walk out with a finished reversible bag! Pick up a supply list and bring a lunch! Taught by Jenn. Max. Students: 4

Fee: $35 Dates: 7/24, 8/19 Approx: 5hrs

Sewing with a Pattern – For kids age 10 and older. In this class you will learn how to use a pattern for sewing as you make a pair of shorts or pants! Pick up a supply list and bring a lunch! Taught by Jenn. Max. Students: 4

Fee: $35 Dates: 8/21 Approx: 5hrs

Flower Pounding – For kids age 8 and up. Come learn how to transfer live flowers to fabric. All you need to bring is a hammer – and the rest will be supplied with the class fee! Taught by Kendra. Max. Students: 6

Fee: $25.00 Dates: 8/20 Approx: 2hrs

Origami Boxes – For kids age 10 and up. Learn how to turn fabric into beautifully folded origami boxes. Class fee includes all supplies.

Veggie Stamping – For kids age 8 and up. Learn how to paint designs using fruits and vegetables! Class fee includes all supplies except a 100% cotton t-shirt or 100% cotton piece of fabric for stamping. Pre-wash t-shirt or fabric without using fabric softeners.

DEMO’S: Class Materials are not needed

Slipcover Demo – This is the perfect introduction to tackling the project of making slipcovers to update your décor! Come to Mary’s home studio as she demonstrates the art of making slipcovers, by completing one before your eyes. Max. Students: 6

THE INSTRUCTORS

Mary Terry – Our tireless leader. Come and learn some of her many talents during her Tuesday night decorating seminars and many other classes!

Margot Eddy – Come and learn amazing bags from Margot. The Japanese Box Bag is the first of many classes she has in store for all of us at Esther’s!

Jenn Rhoads - Trained at F.I.T. in NY - after working in the corporate ‘fashion world’, she is glad to be working somewhere that ‘feeds’ her creativity! Come and take advantage of her many ideas!

Chung Pring – Chung has become an Esther’s mainstay! She creates all day – and we are glad she comes to the shop to share her ideas with all of us!

Margret Darrah – You know her, you love her… And now you can appreciate her many ideas and vast knowledge as she shares her expertise in a variety of classes.

Isobel Coney - Imported from England, Isobel is a certified Textile & Art teacher. She loves to work with fiber and bright colors, and can’t wait to share some of her expertise.

Joan Spier – This painter and textile artist has a special interest in improvisational and free form quilts. With over 20 years of experience, she is currently writing a book!

Virginia Keyser – Textile artist, wood worker, and more. Truly a ‘Jill’ of all trades!

Kendra Allen - She has been a fiber artist since birth…what more do we really have to say?

Deanie Willmann – This award-winning artist has been embroidering "all her life". Come and learn her self-developed technique, Brush Stroke Embroidery.

Donna Holmes– An accomplished doll maker – teaches the wonderful art of doll making. Her passion is contagious!
