The Boat Yard project, as currently envisioned, would take the site currently occupied by the Washington State Ferry maintenance yard and turn it into an attractive multiple-use maritime-oriented park, complete with working boat yards and home port facilities for Puget Sound's heritage boats, along with historical and maritime displays. A large central building could become a community center, performance hall or convention center (or. . .?); and there will be small shops for local farmers and artisans, a visitor's dock and dinghy tie-up, a boat rental facility, a small-ferry landing, and an office and ship's chandlery. The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum would move onto the site, as well. An additional attraction would be a restaurant and small museum located on a restored ferry or other ship moored at the site. |
